2015 Yamaha WR250F

Yamaha has always liked to do things their own way. Being different is what makes their bikes so special and unique. When you take a look at the new 2015 Yamaha WR250F’s high-tech ‘reverse’ engine you can see that what may look wrong to some people is right for Yamaha. They have done very well at producing a well rounded lightweight enduro specific machine for any level of rider.

The biggest change from the 2014 model to this new model is the new fuel injected reverse styled engine, that the WR has adopted from the race winning proven motocross side of Yamaha (2014 250 AMA motocross championship).The reverse cylinder allows for a much cleaner/straighter and cooler shot of air through the air box and into the throttle body which gives this little small bore a very quick and powerful engine with a lot of torque for a smooth power delivery.

That powerful little engine is then placed into a very light and compact aluminium chassis with a very short subframe. Like all of the Yamaha range the new WR250F comes with the best foot pegs of any other brand. They are noticeably wider for improved feel and stability on your feet for those long out rides with friends or National level competition.

With the new chassis and reverse engine Yamaha has been able to achieve what is the ultimate goal for any rider or bike manufacturer and that is to have the lowest centre of gravity to make it as central as possible. With this added bonus the tank is almost invisible and makes the rider seating very flat and comfortable allowing the rider to be able to move as far forward as possible without having to worry about having a petrol cap in the way.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Even with the tank as well hidden as it is, it is still very easily filled up with fuel ( 7.5 litres) by just lifting up a small portion of the seat which is hinged and the fuel cap is right below it. The air filter is also very easy to clean and replaced as no tools are required. The top half of the shroud and air box cover is neatly kept on by 3 quick release dzus clips making dreaded filter changes nice and easy.

 

 

 

The bike is fitted with a 6 speed wide ratio gear box and newly developed smooth feeling enduro clutch designed to take hour after hour of gruelling punishment. The Yamaha WR250F comes with Kayaba SSS suspension with 48mm forks that enables 310mm of travel. The rear is fitted with a motocross styled link shock which offer 318mm of wheel travel which is ever reliable giving the rider a fantastic feel of any terrain you feel brave enough to take the new WR250F over.The WR250f also come with both a electric start and kick start giving you plenty of options should you be too tired to kick start your bike you can simply start it by the push of a button. Its also always great having a kick start as back up should your battery die you wont be left stranded in the woods waiting for search and rescue to come find you.

The bike comes with Metzeler 6days extreme tyres which are fitted onto 21 inch and 18 inch wheels which gives you lots of options when selecting a tyre for your specific needs or conditions.
