Most manufacturers in the world have gone the direction of the 4 strokes. Except that in the case of Yamaha and their 2015 YZ two-strokes. Yamaha is proving that they aren’t heading the direction of the dinosaurs, as if they hadn’t already proven it. Yamaha officials say that the company is committed to its two-stroke machines for the long haul. To shut down any doubters, for 2015, Yamaha is not only keeping the YZ250 in its line up, but also has actually invested a few R&D dollars to upgrade the 2 stroke model. Making them the best production two-stroke Yamaha two strokes the world has ever seen.

The new 2015 Yamaha YZ250 has all new styling from the bottom up. It gives the YZ250 a resembling look to its 450 brother. The front fender, radiator shrouds, graphics, number plates, fork protectors, air box, seat cover and rear fender are all new on the 2015 Yamaha YZ250 this year. There’s more to the 2015 YZ250 than just new bodywork. The 2015 Yamaha YZ250 gets the latest 48mm KYB Speed Sensitive System cartridge fork that provides 11.8 inches of travel up front, a fully adjustable KYB shock with Yamaha’s slick, friction-reducing Kashima coating is bolted to a rising-rate linkage suspension system which provides 12.4 inches of travel out back. Internally, the little two-stroke gets different valving and lighter springs than the four-strokes brothers. The YZ250 uses 0.44 kg/mm fork springs and a 4.9 kg/mm shock spring. The YZ250 also gets a new adjustable clutch perch that allows the rider to easily select a clutch lever position that is most comfortable for his or her hand, which is a sensible improvement, as you’re most likely to spend a little more time abusing the clutch on a two-stroke. Other minor updates include design revisions to the rear sprocket, rear brake disc protector and rear brake caliper protector.

With all these new updates its still the heart of these 2 stroke engines that defines them. Their snappy power is classic two-stroke all the way, assisted by Yamaha Power Valve Systems (YPVS) that broaden their torque and power delivery by raising and lowering the exhaust port (and thus altering the engine’s compression ratio) making riding this little beauty all that easier.

The one thing Yamaha will always be stuck with on the YZ250 2 stroke, is the wonderful sound that the bike makes while racing around the track, and even though their is less of these two strokes around today there is still not much that beats the sound that the 2015 Yamaha YZ250 makes.
