GH Motorcycles G&B Finch Team Race Update

Round 5 of the Eastern Centre motocross championship took place this past weekend at the rain soaked Chipenham mx track located just off the A11. The track was in fantastic condition early on considering how much rain we had leading up to the event which rutted up nicely for qualifying, with perfect traction early on all though more rain was on its way.

Qualifying got under way for the expert class on a near perfect track and team rider Brad Tomlin got bragging rights as the fastest team rider after the session as he set a time of  01:40.396 which put him 4th overall. Brad Woodroffe followed up in 5th place with a time of 01:40.810 and Brendon Mayers ended up 10th fastest in the session with a 01:44.166 giving all 3 riders a good chance of getting a good gate pick. Starts were going to be crucial as the rain then came down hard after qualifying and that was the theme for the day.

Race 1 had Brad Woodroffe start 5th on the first lap but then made two quick passes to get into 3rd a couple laps later and settled there for the remainder of the race trying not to make any mistakes in the mud. Brad Tomlin didnt get a good jump out of the gate but he then proceeded top work his way up through the pack the entire race to eventually finish a strong 4th. Brendon Mayers had a decent start in race 1 but struggled in the wet conditions all day but still managed to hang onto a 10th place finish.

Race 2 had Brad Woodroffe nearly grab the hole-shot before being involved with a collision in the first turn and to then crash later on in the race but he still posted very impressive lap times to ride back up to 6th. Brad Tomlin had a strong race 3 and kept out of trouble in the mud after having a good start he eventually finished the race in 3rd. Brendon Mayers suffered from crashes in race 2 and threw his goggles off but he still ended up 11th.

Race 3 had Brad Woodroffe grab the hole-shot and lead for the first 3 laps before losing a position to Benstead. It was then a 3 way battle for the lead for the rest of the race between Benstead, Woodroffe and Southgate but Woodroffe managed to hang onto 2nd. Brad Tomlin didnt get off to the best of starts in race 3 which made for a long race with vision problems coming through the pack and had to settle for 7th. Brendon Mayers had more of the same in race 3 as he did in race 2 with more crashes and having to lose his goggles again but he still ended up 11th.

Overall it was a decent day for the team and especially with the continuous rain all day the results could of been much more shaken up so the team riders did well to have a solid day all round and not lose too many points in the championship.
