Tom Murphy GH Motorcycles G&B Finch

Tom Murphy travelled all the way back to Wales this past weekend to compete in the Pirelli British Masters Championship at Pontrilas mx track. Fortunately for Tom he raced here exactly a week ago all though in completely different conditions. Unfortunately for his dad Gary and family they had to make the exact same journey two weeks in a row, at least the Welsh scenery is some what more exciting than the flat lands of the Essex county.

Gary described the weekend to me as an okay weekend, but looking at the bigger picture Tom had a string of strong results all landing him inside the top 10 except one race, and he even faced some adversity through the weekend. Qualifying had Tom post his fastest lap of the session in lap 1 after the timing turned live showing that Tom was ready for the weekend and had his eye set in straight away.

Race 1 for the weekend had Tom finish exactly where he qualified in 8th position, showing that his time in practice wasn’t just dumb luck and that is where he belongs inside the top 10. Race 2 had him in 8th again giving him a ha-trick of 8ths throughout the day.

Sunday didnt go as smooth as Sunday but Tom managed to show a lot of determination and work through his problems he was faced with and still post strong results. Race 1 had him go down on the first lap after already having a poor start and leaving him with a lot of work to do to get back to 13th by race end. Race 2 was an impressive result as he managed to get a 10th leaving his dad with plenty questions as he could see Tom could of done better in the race. By the time Gary got back to the pits Tom notified him that he had finished the race with a front wheel puncture, making his top 10 performance even more impressive considering the hard slick surface of the circuit.

Tom’s results ended up getting him 9th overall for the weekend and having him move into 6th place in the championship standings in the 85cc small wheel class.
